Original German WWII Luftwaffe M40 Single Decal Helmet EF62
This original German WWII Luftwaffe M40 Single Decal Helmet was manufactured by Emaillierwerke A.G., Fulda (EF) and is size 62. The helmet retains its original Luftwaffe blue-gray heavily textured factory finish and presents with an untouched, honest appearance throughout.
EXTERIOR
Shell:
The shell retains a strong amount of its original Luftwaffe blue-gray textured paint. The finish shows scattered minor rust spotting and light oxidation, primarily in small isolated areas, consistent with long-term storage and age. The texture remains crisp and even throughout. The second pattern Luftwaffe eagle decal is well-preserved, with approximately 90% remaining and light off white tone from age. Minor chips and scrapes are visible, primarily to the wing tips and edges, but the overall presentation remains sharp and attractive.
All three original split pins are present and tight, retaining most of their factory paint with only minor wear. The vent holes and edges remain clean, and the helmet maintains its proper wartime profile without distortion.
INTERIOR
Shell:
The interior retains much of its original factory-applied paint, showing light age toning and honest wear. The EF62 stamp and lot number 1365 are present, though the size “2” is faint.
Liner:
The zinc liner band is intact and correctly fitted. The size 55 leather liner remains complete, with all fingers present. The leather is in excellent condition overall, showing only light staining and normal age-related patina. The original drawstring remains in place.
Chinstrap:
The original chinstrap is present. The long section is broken, while the shorter buckle portion remains attached but exhibits cracking and dryness. Both original chinstrap studs are intact and secure. The partial part of the long chinstrap is stored inside the liner.
CONDITION
Overall, this EF62 Luftwaffe M40 single decal helmet remains a very attractive and honest example. With its strong original textured finish, largely intact decal, complete liner with drawstring, and original though damaged chinstrap, it presents as a solid wartime piece with excellent display appeal.
