Original German WWII Luftwaffe M40 Single Decal Normandy Camouflaged Helmet ET66
Original German WWII M40 Luftwaffe single decal helmet featuring a period-applied Normandy type camouflage finish.
EXTERIOR The camouflage appears to consist of a two to three tone sprayed pattern, with a tan base overlaid with subtle shades of green and brown. The outline of the second model Luftwaffe eagle decal is faintly visible beneath the camouflage paint.
The exterior shows wear and paint loss consistent with service use. Some white paint is present on the top of the dome, possibly the result of an accidental postwar application. All original split pins remain in place, with paint loss on some of their heads.
INTERIOR The interior retains portions of its Luftwaffe blue factory paint, with considerable surface rust throughout. The complete leather liner has darkened to a deep brown and is slightly stiff, retaining its original drawstring. The original leather chinstrap is present with very faint markings. The interior skirt is stamped ET66, indicating a size 66 shell, and bears lot number 5053.
CONDITION A complete, combat worn M40 Luftwaffe helmet retaining its period camouflage finish, original split pins, leather liner, drawstring, and chinstrap. Exterior paint wear, white paint marks on the dome, interior surface rust, and some stiffness to the leather should be noted. An otherwise untouched example with a distinctive Normandy type camouflage pattern.
