Original German WWII Luftwaffe M40 Single Decal Helmet Q66 *U.S. Veteran Bringback*

Original German WWII Luftwaffe M40 Single Decal Helmet Q66 *U.S. Veteran Bringback*

This is an authentic German WWII Model 1940 Luftwaffe single decal combat helmet, manufactured by Quist (Q) and marked Q66, indicating a size 66 shell. The rear skirt bears the lot number “DN260”, corresponding to Luftwaffe helmet production.

EXTERIOR
Original German WWII M40 Luftwaffe single decal combat helmet manufactured by Quist in a size 66 shell. This U.S. veteran bringback retains the majority of its original textured Luftwaffe blue-gray (feldblau) combat paint, with minor scrapes, scattered scratches, and traces of light surface oxidation.

The second pattern Luftwaffe eagle decal remains approximately 95% intact, showing only minor wear consistent with age and service. Remnants of another Luftwaffe eagle decal are visible beneath the vent hole. These appear to reflect a factory application error, with the first decal removed after being incorrectly positioned and a replacement applied in the correct location.

INTERIOR
The interior retains nearly all of its original Luftwaffe blue-gray paint. The shell is marked Q66, with lot number DN260 stamped into the rear interior skirt.

The original leather liner and zinc liner band remain in place. The leather is supple and shows natural age, with localized damage along the front edge. The liner is size stamped 58 and retains its original drawstring. An original, unmarked leather chinstrap is also present.

CONDITION
Overall, a very good to excellent example, with substantial original paint, a well preserved Luftwaffe eagle decal, and a supple liner. The damage to the liner’s front edge should be noted. The apparent factory decal correction adds an interesting detail to Luftwaffe decals being misapplied at the factory.
