Original German WWII M42 Single Decal Luftwaffe ET66
An Original German WWII M42 Single Decal Luftwaffe Helmet, manufactured by Eisenhüttenwerke, Thale (ET) in size 64.
EXTERIOR The helmet retains a large portion of its original rough textured blue-gray Luftwaffe factory finish throughout the exterior, showing honest wartime wear and age. Scattered oxidation and surface rust are present across the shell.
The left side features a Luftwaffe eagle decal that remains 85% intact with good visible detail to the wings, body, and talons. The decal exhibits expected age wear and flaking but still displays nicely against the dark factory finish. The M42 shell retains its original rolled edge design and original factory-installed vent holes. The lot/batch number is no longer legible due to age and oxidation.
INTERIOR The interior retains its original steel liner band and heavily worn leather liner. The leather exhibits significant age, dryness, and deterioration with a couple liner fingers torn, broken, or partially detached, though some remain loosely held together by the original drawstring. The original drawstring remains present.
The chinstrap is missing. Interior surfaces display age toning, oxidation, and scattered rust spotting consistent with long-term storage and wartime use.
The batch/lot number is unreadable, while the shell is faintly marked “ET66” on the inside flared rim.
CONDITION Overall, this helmet remains in solid untouched condition with an attractive combat-worn appearance. The shell retains much of its original textured Luftwaffe paint along with a mostly preserved Luftwaffe eagle decal. The helmet shows scattered oxidation and surface rust throughout but remains structurally sound.
The interior liner is heavily worn and fragile with couple broken leather fingers, while the chinstrap is absent. Despite the wear, the helmet displays very well and would make an excellent representative example of a wartime M42 Luftwaffe combat helmet showing authentic period use and age.
