Original German/Brunswick Pre-WWI Landwehr Veteran League Membership Badge (c.1887)This is an original Brunswick Landwehr Veteran League membership badge, dating to the late 19th century and associated with veterans of the Franco-Prussian War period. The badge features an ornate crowned design with the Brunswick horse at center and the inscription “Braunschweigischer Landwehr-Verein.” At the bottom is an Iron Cross dated 1887, serving as the association’s commemorative emblem.
The badge remains in very good condition, retaining strong detail and an attractive aged patina. It is mounted on its original period ribbon, and the reverse retains a perfectly functioning pinback device.

Historical Note:
Following the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871), numerous German veterans’ associations were formed to preserve camaraderie among former soldiers and to honor their wartime service. Many later united under the Deutscher Kriegerbund, established in 1873, which became one of the major organizations representing German war veterans.
