Original German WWII 1st Model Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger by Tiger With Chain Hanger
This is an original German WWII 1st Model Luftwaffe Officer’s dagger, commonly referred to as the Model 1934/35 Luftwaffe Fliegerdolch. Manufactured by Tiger of Solingen, it is complete with its original blue leather-covered scabbard and aluminum chain hanger.
The plated blade is beautiful and remains bright, clean, and full. It exhibits only the normal runner marks caused by removal from the scabbard, along with a few scattered light surface marks. The tip remains pointed, the edges are smooth, and the blade fits tightly within the hilt. The reverse ricasso is crisply marked with the Tiger trademark and “TIGER / SOLINGEN.” The original blue pebbled leather buffer pad remains intact. Overall, the blade is in very good to excellent condition.
The hilt features a dark blue leather-covered grip with its original twisted wire wrap. The leather remains in very good to excellent condition, displaying expected age, use, scattered surface wear, and a few minor scuffs. The wire wrap remains complete and securely seated. The aluminum pommel and crossguard remain bright and match the scabbard fittings nicely in color and patina. All four sun-wheel symbols—two on the pommel and two at the center of the crossguard retain attractive gold gilding.
The original dark blue pebbled leather scabbard retains approximately 98% of its leather covering. The leather remains attractive and well preserved overall, although there is some minor damage and separation along the lower seam, including a small area of surface loss. The aluminum throat, center band, and lower fittings feature the characteristic scalloped edges and remain tightly secured by all five original screws. The fittings remain bright and display only light age-related wear.
The original aluminum chain hanger consists of 10 lower links and 6 upper links with a functional spring clip. The chain and clip have developed a darker age patina with scattered oxidation and finish wear. The reverse of the clip is correctly marked “Ges. Gesch.” and bears the OLC diamond trademark.
Overall, this is a very attractive Tiger-produced 1st Model Luftwaffe Officer’s dagger. Its beautiful plated blade, gold-gilded sun wheels, well-preserved blue leather grip and scabbard, complete chain hanger, and matching bright aluminum fittings make it a particularly desirable example.
