Original German WWII Artillery Rucksack With Shoulder Straps Dated 1942
This is a very nice original German WWII artillery rucksack, constructed of heavy olive drab cotton fabric with leather trim and fittings. A classic field-used example, it retains its original leather shoulder straps and wartime character throughout.
The rucksack features the typical flap closure with leather edging and securing strap. The interior retains its original drawstring closure system with metal grommets, still fully functional. The leather components show honest age and use, with the flap leather being somewhat dry—this could benefit from light conditioning, or simply be left as-is to preserve originality.
One notable aspect is a period field repair. The internal pocket with button is no longer present, most likely removed during service. The repair itself is well executed using original-style materials, including a reattached leather tab, and is entirely consistent with wartime use.
The reverse retains its original leather shoulder straps, which remain intact and solid, showing typical wear and patina. The leather backing tab is clearly maker marked and dated 1942, adding to the authenticity and desirability of the piece.
Hardware throughout is complete, with only minor surface oxidation visible on some metal components. The canvas body remains strong, showing expected wear, light staining, and age toning consistent with field use.
Overall, this is a very attractive and honest German WWII artillery rucksack in very good condition, with desirable wartime repairs and clear 1942 date, an excellent example for display or collection.
