This is an original German WWII Black Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz), manufactured by the well-known firm Klein & Quenzer of Idar-Oberstein, commonly identified by collectors as K.u.Q. The Black Wound Badge was instituted on 1 September 1939 and was awarded to military personnel who sustained one or two combat wounds or suffered injuries while serving under enemy action.

The badge is die-struck from steel and retains the majority of its original black finish, with honest age-related wear visible on the raised details, particularly on the helmet and lower wreath. The finely pebbled background remains sharp, while the laurel wreath, crossed swords, and central M35-style steel helmet display crisp, well-defined detail. The natural wear to the finish gives the badge an attractive wartime appearance without detracting from its overall presentation.
