Original German WWII DAF (Deutsche Arbeitsfront) Membership Book 1935–1944
An original German WWII Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF – German Labor Front) membership book (Mitgliedsbuch), belonging to Kath. (likely short for Katharina) Braunweiler, a Schererin (shearer/cutter), documenting membership and dues payments from 1935 through 1944.
The DAF replaced independent trade unions in Germany following their dissolution in 1933 and became the official state-controlled labor organization under the Third Reich. Membership books such as this were carried by workers and regularly updated with dues stamps, employment entries, and official administrative markings.
This example retains its original red marbled hard cover with gilt DAF cogwheel emblem to the front. The interior is filled out in period ink and identifies the member as:
Kath. Braunweiler
Occupation: Schererin (shearer/cutter)
Born: 13 May 1892
Entered service: 1 September 1934
Gau: Düsseldorf
The book contains numerous original dues stamps and official ink stamps spanning nearly the entire wartime period, showing continuous recorded payments from 1935 into 1944. Several pages also feature factory and administrative validation markings, adding further historical character and authenticity.
The opening pages include printed ideological quotations attributed to Adolf Hitler and Dr. Robert Ley, head of the DAF, along with period organizational insignia and administrative entries.
The book remains complete and well-preserved overall, with only light age and handling wear consistent with use. Interior pages are clean and fully legible, with strong ink stamps and colorful dues labels still firmly attached.
An excellent and historically interesting original Third Reich labor document, ideal for collectors of German WWII paperwork, social history items, and DAF-related material.
