Original German WWII Eastern Front Winter Campaign Medal 1941/42 Without Ribbon
This is an excellent and well-preserved original Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42 (“Winter Battle in the East 1941/42”) Medal, commonly known as the “Ostmedaille.” Struck in silvered and blackened fine zinc, this example does not appear to be marked on the suspension ring.
The obverse depicts a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a swastika (Hakenkreuz), surmounted by a steel helmet and stick grenade symbolizing the combined arms of the Eastern Front. The reverse is inscribed “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” above a crossed sword and laurel branch, representing both combat service and endurance under harsh conditions.
This medal retains its original suspension ring and the finish shows attractive age patina and honest age wear consistent with period issue. Does not come with ribbon.
