Original German WWII General Assault Badge Unmarked (Damaged Catch)
This is an original unmarked General Assault Badge (Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen) of zinc construction. This badge was awarded to Heer personnel who participated in multiple ground combat assaults without qualifying for a specific campaign badge, making it a significant WWII combat award.
The badge features the classic pattern, consisting of an oval oakleaf wreath enclosing a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a swas., with crossed bayonet and grenade beneath. The details remain fairly crisp throughout.
The original silvered finish has largely worn away, a common and expected trait of zinc-based awards, caused by natural oxidation and age of the zinc base metal rather than field or service wear. The badge now displays an even, matte grey tone consistent with long-term storage and age-related finish loss.
The reverse retains the barrel hinge and tapered pin. Unfortunately the catch is damaged / broken off.
Overall remains in good condition.
