Original German WWII Heer Officer's Artillery Visor Cap Size 56/57
Offered here is an original German WWII Heer (Army) Artillery Officer’s Visor Cap (Schirmmütze), constructed in fieldgray wool with a dark green wool cap band. The red Waffenfarbe piping around the crown and upper and lower edges of the cap band denotes service with the Artillery branch.
The front retains a first pattern Heer national eagle above a nice silver bullion officer’s wreath, surrounding the national cockade. The bullion wreath exhibits honest age and wear with some areas of oxidation and minor loss to the embroidery. The cap is fitted with the correct style silver officer’s chin cords, secured by silver colored pebbled buttons.
The fieldgray wool body exhibits an attractive service used appearance with scattered age related fading, discoloration and staining. There are a few scattered areas of light mothing. The red piping remains vibrant and provides excellent contrast against the fieldgray body and dark green band. The black visor remains firmly attached and is in very good condition, retaining an attractive finish with only minor wear.
The interior retains its original leather sweatband and satin lining. The sweatband shows considerable service wear and age related darkening, but remains substantially intact. The lining exhibits staining, discoloration, and wear consistent with prolonged use. The original celluloid sweat shield is no longer present, although its stitching outline remains clearly visible. Red markings or writing are visible beneath the former sweat shield area. No maker's name is presently visible. The cap measures approximately a size 56/57.
Overall, this is a very good, genuinely service used example of an original Heer Artillery Officer’s visor cap. Refer to photos for more details and actual condition.
