This is an original and attractive German WWII Heer Officer’s Dagger, manufactured by the well known Solingen firm Carl Eickhorn.
Blade:
The blade remains in excellent condition, retaining a bright finish with very nice overall presentation. The etched squirrel trademark, “Original Eickhorn Solingen,” is crisp and clearly defined. Please note, the tip has been broken in the past, which is reflected in the price. The original leather buffer pad is still present.
Hilt:
The zinc-alloy based crossguard and fittings retain their original plating with a pleasing, even patina. The detailing throughout the crossguard, pommel, and ferrule remains sharp and well-defined, showcasing the quality typical of Eickhorn production.
The grip is the desirable orange trylon type, which is in excellent condition, free from cracks, chips, or damage, and displays a rich, vibrant tone.
Scabbard:
The scabbard is the steel-based, plated Eickhorn type, featuring the classic pebbled finish. It shows only light, honest wear and remains free from dents. The throat retaining screw is intact and appears unturned, adding to the overall integrity of the piece.
Overall:
A beautifully patinaed and well-matched example of a Heer Officer’s dagger by one of the most respected Solingen makers. Despite the noted blade tip issue, this dagger presents extremely well and offers excellent display appeal, making it a solid and affordable addition to any edged weapons collection.
