Original German WWII M40 Single Decal Heer Tropical Camouflage Helmet Q64
This is an original M40 Heer (Army) steel helmet, shell size Q64, retaining its factory-applied single Heer eagle decal and period-applied tropical camouflage finish.
EXTERIOR Shell: The helmet exhibits a unique tropical camouflage pattern consisting of a tan-brown overpaint applied over the original dark field-grey factory finish. The camouflage displays excellent age, oxidation, and natural wear throughout, with proper patina and surface texture. The paint shows honest service wear, areas of blending, and age-related tonal variation that give the helmet strong character and visual appeal. Decal: The single decal is still mostly intact and shows some age and wear. The decal is a Quist "Bigfoot" Heer decal.
Split Pins: All three original split pins remain firmly in place. The domed heads retain visible traces of both the original factory-applied fieldgrey finish and the later camouflage tan overpaint, with chipping and wear consistent with age, service, and field application. INTERIOR Shell: The shell interior is stamped “Q64,” indicating manufacture by Quist, Esslingen. A majority of original paint has been nicely preserved. Liner: The original liner is still nicely intact.. The leather liner remains complete, with all finger tabs intact and properly tied with its original drawstring. The liner shows honest wear and aging from service but remains in very good condition overall. Chinstrap: The chinstrap is present and appears period, not marked, showing age and use consistent with the helmet. The buckle and hardware exhibit correct wartime characteristics and patina. We always recommend that leather items be handled with care due to aging. CONDITION Overall, this helmet remains in very good, solid condition. The shell retains an attractive, well-worn appearance with honest age, and surface patina consistent with field service. The tropical camouflage finish and single Heer decal present well, giving the piece strong display appeal. A fine example suitable for a North Africa or Southern Italy campaign display.
