Original German WWII Heer Artillery Hauptmann (Captain) Uniform Removed Insignia Set Artillerie Regiment 8
This is an original matched grouping consisting of a pair of sewn-on shoulder boards and a pair of uniform-removed collar tabs, attributed to a Hauptmann (Captain) of Artillerie Regiment 8 in the German Army (Heer).
The shoulder boards are correct officer-grade examples constructed with subdue gray braid and red wool Waffenfarbe piping, denoting the Artillery branch. Each board is fitted with two gilt zinc rank pips, correctly indicating the rank of Hauptmann, along with a metal “8” regimental cypher denoting Artillerie Regiment 8. As commonly encountered with wartime zinc fittings, some of the original gold gilt finish has worn from the pips, revealing the underlying metal due to age and service use. The boards clearly show evidence of having been professionally sewn to a tunic, with original stitching remnants still present on the reverse.
The accompanying collar tabs are textbook Heer Artillery officer pattern, constructed of silver bullion wire with dual vertical red braid bars on a dark green wool base. The bullion remains well defined, and the reverse retains original hand stitching, confirming they were uniform removed. Some minor corosion on the aluminum thread.
Condition:
All components exhibit honest period wear consistent with service use. The shoulder boards show some moth damage to the wool backing, primarily visible on the reverse and edges, as shown in the photos. This is typical of wool-backed insignia of this period and does not detract from the overall integrity or originality. The collar tabs are in better overall condition with only light age wear. All pieces are original and unaltered.
