Original German WWII HJ Steel Belt Buckle RZM M4/39 By Assmann With Crank Catch
This is an original German WWII Hitler Youth (HJ) steel belt buckle, manufactured by F. W. Assmann & Söhne of Lüdenscheid. The reverse is stamped RZM M4/39, identifying Assmann as the maker, and also shows a very faint Assmann “A” logo next to the RZM marking.
The buckle is die-struck steel with a plated finish, typical of wartime production. The obverse features the classic HJ diamond with the HJ runes, surrounded by a wreath and the motto “Blut und Ehre!” The design retains good die detail throughout the wreath, lettering, and central device, with only light smoothing to the high points from service wear.
The reverse retains its original hardware, including the desirable crank-style catch, with the prongs and bar intact and functional.
Condition:The buckle appears unissued, with most of the visible wear resulting from improper storage over time rather than field use. There is scattered oxidation and finish wear, particularly along the edges and exposed areas, while much of the original plating remains visible in the recessed portions of the design. The reverse hardware remains solid, and the maker markings remain legible.
Overall, this is a very nice original wartime Hitler Youth buckle by Assmann, featuring the correct crank catch hardware and strong overall detail.
