Original German WWII Kuban Campaign Shield (Kuban-Schild) Missing All Backing ComponentsOffered is an original German WWII Kuban Campaign Shield, awarded to Wehrmacht personnel who served in the Kuban bridgehead during 1943.
The shield displays the classic design with Wehrmacht eagle above the date “1943”, the bold “KUBAN” title, and the stylized map of the region with place names including “LAGUNEN,” “KRYMSKAJA,” and “NOWOROSSIJSK.” The details remain well-defined and easily legible throughout.
Constructed of die-stamped metal, the shield retains a good portion of its original bronze finish, now toned to a darker patina with honest age wear. High points show light smoothing, while recessed areas retain deeper coloration, giving the piece strong contrast and character.
The reverse shows the original attachment prongs still present; however, the shield is missing all backing components, including the metal backing plate, wool fieldgray cloth, and paper backing, leaving only the front shield itself. The prongs show typical wear and light oxidation consistent with age. Not marked and unknown manufacturer.
Despite these losses, the piece remains an authentic wartime example and displays well. It would make a suitable filler, display example, or restoration candidate for the collector.
Overall a solid and genuine Kuban Shield from one of the notable Eastern Front campaign awards.
