Original German WWII Land Customs Official Dagger By Eickhorn With Hanger & Portepee
This is an authentic German WWII Land Customs Official dagger, produced by Carl Eickhorn. These ceremonial daggers were produced 1937 and ended in 1942 for officials serving in the Landzoll (Land Customs Service), a division responsible for border security, immigration enforcement, and customs tax collection. Unlike other military branches, the Land Customs Service was relatively small, resulting in limited dagger production.
Hilt:
The aluminum hilt fittings remain exceptionally well preserved, showing minimal wear and light age toning. The pommel retains sharply defined Customs pattern oakleaf decoration, while the crossguard features the distinctive Customs eagle with upswept wing tips, clutching a swas. within a wreath.
Grip:
The dark green leather covered grip retains its textured surface, with minor scuffing and small areas of finish wear from age and handling. The twisted wire wrap remains complete and securely seated within the grip’s grooves.
Blade:
The blade bears the Carl Eickhorn, Solingen squirrel trademark. It remains bright and in excellent condition, with original crossgrain still visible. Minor gray spotting and light surface marks are present, but the blade shows very little wear and retains its intact point.
Scabbard:
The steel scabbard retains its dark green leather covering, with scattered scuffs and small areas of surface loss. A shallow ding is visible from both the front and reverse, with a more pronounced abrasion to the leather on the reverse near the lower fitting. The nickel plated fittings retain a bright finish, with light scratches and scattered spotting. All headless retaining screws are present and undamaged. The incised decorative lines appear only on the front surfaces of the fittings.
Hanger:
Included is the matching double strap hanger, featuring silver colored woven facings with green borders, decorative oval buckles, adjustment slides, and metal attachment fittings. The straps remain well preserved, showing light age discoloration and minor wear. The metal fittings retain clear decorative detail with scattered age toning.
Portepee:
Attached is a rare Customs pattern silver wire portepee featuring green stripes on the acorn. The cord and knot retain their woven detail and bright appearance. A few loose wires are present at the slider, but the portepee otherwise remains well preserved.
