Original German WWII Black Leather Map Case (Kartentasche) Dated 1942
This is an authentic German WWII black leather map case, issued to officers and NCOs for navigation and operational planning. Constructed of durable pebbled grained leather, it features internal pockets for maps, pencils, and accessories, with rear belt loops for field wear.
The leather remains mostly firm with some supple areas. The map case would benefit from leather conditioner. It appears there has been some period restitching done along the edges on the back. The front flap is secured by its original leather strap and buckle. The hardware does have some minor oxidation. The belt loop strap on the back/right side has some missing stitches -- it's possible it could be repaired. We always recommend handling leather straps with care and recommend conditioning.
The internal pockets / compartments are all intact, but again would benefit from conditioning. There is a very faint 1942 stamp on the underside of the flap.
Overall the leather is slightly firm and faded from age and use, but remains in good condition.
