Original German WWII Heer M38 EM/NCO Overseas Cap Private Purchase Size 56/57
This is an original German WWII Heer M38 enlisted/NCO overseas cap (Feldmütze), constructed of field-gray wool and representing a private-purchase example. The cap is fitted with a wartime BeVo woven Heer eagle and a BeVo woven round national cockade to the front, both correctly hand sewn applied and showing period wear consistent with age and use.
The cap displays the proper M38 construction, with correct multi-panel crown, reinforced seams, and intact metal ventilation grommets on each side. The wool retains a pleasing, wartime fieldgray with honest service wear, giving the cap strong visual character without compromising structural integrity.
Internally, the cap features a private-purchase leather sweatband, rather than the standard fully cloth-lined issue configuration. This higher-quality leather band shows expected age softening and wear. A partial gray cotton lining remains present, bearing a very faint and partially legible manufacturer’s marking, consistent with wartime private-purchase production and the soldier name inscribed in pen. As is typical with these examples, no clear size stamp is visible; the cap measures approximately a size 56/57.
