Original German WWII Heer M42 EM/NCO Overseas Cap Size 56 Dated 1942
This is an original German WWII M42 Heer (Army) Overseas Cap (Feldmütze), constructed of fieldgrey wool and factory dated 1942. The cap is a textbook featuring a BeVo hand stitched applied Gebirgsjäger (Light Infantry Mountain Troops) eagle with cockade.
The exterior fieldgrey wool retains a mostly untouched appearance showing hardly any service wear. The nap remains visible throughout, showing typical age and minimal use without major damage. The two side ventilation grommets are intact, and the front fold is secured with its original pebbled grained fieldgrey painted buttons, which are missing some paint.
Affixed to the front left side is a Luftwaffe aluminum gull. We believe this insignia was applied post war by the US veteran who brought the cap home, as it is not correct for a Heer cap. It has been left in place as found.
The interior is fully lined in cotton/rayon blend material. The manufacturer’s stamp is present and legible, showing a 1942 date along with size marking 56. The lining exhibits normal age toning and wear consistent with service use. A period safety pin is present inside, likely soldier-added. Aside from some discoloration, the interior is well-preserved.
Overall, this is a solid and honest Heer M42 Overseas Cap in desirable size 56, retaining its wartime character and strong visual appeal. A nice example suitable for display or collection.
