Original German WWII MG34/42 50-Round Patronentrommel 34 (Snail Drum) hqu 44 With Ordnance Tan Paint
Original German WWII 50-round Patronentrommel 34 (Gurttrommel) for the MG34 and later MG42 machine gun. These drums were issued to house a 50-round linked belt segment, providing improved mobility for assault and support roles.
This example is finished in wartime ordnance tan (Dunkelgelb), a desirable late-war factory or depot-applied finish. The paint shows honest service wear, edge chipping, oxidation, and age-related patina throughout. The ribbed body remains solid, and the carry handle and hinged lid are intact.
The lid is stamped “hqu 44,” identifying 1944 wartime production by Metallwarenfabrik Treuenbrietzen. Late-war tan drums are noticeably scarcer than earlier panzer gray examples. Handwritten field markings remain visible on the lid.
Condition Notes:
- The side closure latch is missing.
- The hinge area shows wear consistent with service use.
- Interior remains complete and solid.
- No modern repaint and finish appears period-applied with natural aging.
Despite the missing latch, this is a genuine late-war example with strong display presence and desirable factory code/date combination. A solid representative piece for an MG34/MG42 display or accessories grouping.
