Original German WWII M42 Heer/Waffen SS No Decal Helmet NS64

This is an original German WWII M42 combat helmet in the no decal configuration, manufactured by Vereinigte Deutsche Nikelwerke (NS). The shell is stamped NS64, with lot number E541 (partially faint) visible on the interior rear skirt. Helmets of this type were produced during the mid-to-late war period when decals were no longer factory applied, and examples such as this are known to have been issued to both Heer and Waffen-SS troops.

EXTERIOR

The helmet retains its original wartime-applied fieldgray finish, now toned to a smooth, muted patina from age and service. The surface shows honest wear throughout, including light scratches, scuffs, and areas of oxidation. There are a few small dents and dings visible, most notably along one side, consistent with field use.

Traces of a previously applied postwar decal can be observed, which has since been removed, leaving faint remnants visible in certain lighting.

The M42’s characteristic raw edge is intact and well defined. The stamped NS-style ventilation hole is correct, and all three factory-installed rivets remain present, tight, and undisturbed.

INTERIOR

The interior retains its original M31 leather liner, size 57, which remains complete. The leather shows expected age wear, darkening but is a little stiff and still relatively supple. The original drawstring is present.

The liner band is the correct late-war zinc type and remains firmly in place.

The chinstrap is partially present: the shorter tab remains intact, while the longer section is broken, likely due to age and dryness.

OVERALL CONDITION

A solid, untouched example of a late-war M42 no decal helmet, displaying honest combat wear and desirable characteristics. The helmet remains in very good condition overall and presents well as a genuine wartime piece, ideal for display or as part of an advanced collection.

A great example of a late-war German combat helmet ideal for any WWII collection in very good condition.
