Rare Original German WWII Panzer Assault Badge “50” Engagement Marked G.B. By Gustav Bremher
This is a rare original German WWII Panzer Assault Badge with "50" Engagement Clasp (Panzerkampfabzeichen mit Einsatzzahl 50) manufactured by the highly regarded firm Gustav Brehmer of Markneukirchen, maker marked "G.B." Introduced in June 1943, the numbered Panzer Assault Badges recognized armored personnel who had participated in extended numbers of combat engagements, with the "50" grade representing a significant level of front-line service and making it considerably scarcer than the standard Panzer Assault Badge.
This late-war example is die-struck in zinc and exhibits the characteristic gray patina associated with zinc awards. As commonly encountered, the badge has lost nearly all of its original silver finish, leaving an attractive untouched appearance that is entirely consistent with age and wartime zinc construction. The tank, oak leaf wreath, and national eagle remain sharply defined, with excellent detail visible throughout, including the road wheels, track links, hull, turret, and main gun.
Mounted at the base of the wreath is the original separately attached "50" engagement plaque. The plaque retains an attractive bronze-colored border surrounding a blackened recessed center, with the raised numeral "50" remaining crisp and well defined, providing a pleasing contrast against the gray finish of the badge.
The reverse displays Gustav Brehmer's characteristic hollow-backed construction and retains its original barrel hinge, round wire pin, and catch, all of which remain intact and fully functional. The reverse is correctly maker marked "G.B.", identifying this scarce example as a production of Gustav Brehmer, one of the more desirable manufacturers of Panzer Assault Badges.
Examples of this rare and scarce “50” engagement badge are increasingly difficult to find on today’s market, with comparable pieces currently being offered elsewhere in the $3,800–$4,500 range.
This example is competitively priced at $3,250, offering excellent value for a desirable and hard-to-find Panzer combat award.
Overall, this is a genuine and increasingly difficult-to-find Panzer Assault Badge with "50" Engagement Clasp by Gustav Brehmer. Its desirable maker attribution, original engagement plaque, honest zinc patina, and well-preserved detail make it an excellent addition to any advanced collection of German armored warfare awards..
