Original German WWII SA (Sturmabteilung) Musicians Shoulder Swallows Nest Set (Unfinished)
This is an original matching pair of German WWII SA (Sturmabteilung) musicians’ shoulder “swallow’s nests.” These decorative uniform insignia were worn in pairs on the shoulders by musicians serving in SA musical units.
Each piece is constructed of bright red wool with alternating vertical bands of gold colored metallic tress. A wide band of matching metallic tress runs along the curved lower edge, creating the distinctive swallow’s-nest appearance. The colors remain vibrant, and the fronts display well with only light age and storage wear.
This set was never fully completed, most likely remaining unfinished at the end of the war. The reverse sides retain exposed construction stitching, loose threads, and unfinished edges. They were never fitted with the proper backing material or the attachment hooks normally found along the upper edge and therefore were never ready for uniform wear.
An interesting matching pair that provides a look at wartime insignia construction before the finishing process was completed. Sold as is and only as a pair.
