Original German WWII Heer M40 Single Decal ET66-This is an original German WWII M40 Heer single decal combat helmet, manufactured by Eisenhüttenwerke Thale (ET) in shell size 66. The M40 model features the stamped air vents introduced in 1940, and this example retains its untouched wartime configuration.
Exterior
The helmet retains its factory applied barely textured fieldgray combat paint, showing honest wear, surface scratches, and scattered areas of patina from long service use. The Heer decal is the correct ET-style eagle, showing expected age toning and moderate wear but remaining approximately 90% intact.
All three rivets remain original and firmly in place. The shell shows no cracks, bends, or repairs—only genuine field wear consistent with a helmet that saw real wartime service.
Interior
Inside, the helmet retains its original M31 leather liner, nicely aged with a deep, even combat patina. The liner leather remains complete, though it shows dryness and wear expected for a field-used example. The liner tongue drawstring is 100% original to the helmet and still present, though it is fraying in several areas, consistent with age. Some did carve their name into the front of the leather liner.
The liner band is the correct early-war zinc band used by ET during this production period.
The helmet includes its correct wartime chinstrap with a steel gray-painted buckle. The buckle retains a good amount of paint, and the strap itself shows heavy use and age wear but remains complete and supple. Not marked.
Overall Condition
This is a genuine, untouched Heer M40 single decal helmet with strong originality throughout: factory paint, original liner, original drawstring, and correct chinstrap with gray-painted buckle. The overall condition reflects authentic frontline wear while retaining all major components.
A solid, desirable example for any collector of WWII German helmets in very good to excellent condition.
