Original German WWII Heer M40 Single Decal Helmet Q62
This authentic M40 single decal helmet is a solid example of a wartime-issued piece produced by Quist. The shell is stamped size “62,” with the maker attributed to Quist (Q), though the lot number is no longer legible.
EXTERIOR
The helmet retains its original fieldgray finish, showing honest service wear, scattered abrasions, and age-related patina throughout. The single Heer decal remains present on the left side, though it is very faded and worn, with only partial detail still visible. There are indications that a water transfer decal may have been applied at some point, as suggested by the surrounding surface characteristics. The three split pins remain intact and in place, each retaining traces of their original factory-applied paint.
INTERIOR
The interior retains much of its original finish; however, an apparent liquid exposure at some point has caused areas of the fieldgray paint to react and take on a silvery tone. Despite this, the shell remains structurally sound.
The liner is complete and retains all of its fingers. The leather remains supple overall, though slightly stiff from age and wear. The original drawstring is missing. The liner band remains in place, and the helmet is absent its chinstrap.
Notably, green-painted soldier’s initials are present on the inside rear skirt, adding a personalized touch to the piece.
CONDITION
Overall, this helmet presents as a well-worn but honest example, with a desirable Quist shell and faint original decal. A good representative piece for display or as part of a collection.
