Original German WWII Social Welfare Decoration 1st Class with Neck Ribbon
This is an authentic Social Welfare Decoration (Ehrenzeichen für deutsche Volkspflege) First Class neck cross. It was instituted in 1939 and awarded for service to the German state in the social sector, such as medical and rescue work.
The decoration features a white enameled cross with a gilt border, displaying a black national eagle to the obverse with central wreath. The enamel remains very well preserved, free of major damage, and retains a strong, vibrant appearance. The reverse is plain white enamel as expected for this award. Each of the cross arms taper, which is correct on originals.
The suspension consists of a gilt hanger with oakleaf motif, showing light age toning consistent with period use or age. The medal is suspended from its original neck ribbon, constructed of red fabric with white edge stripes. The ribbon remains in good condition overall, with some light staining and age wear visible throughout.
A desirable higher-grade social welfare award, especially when found complete with its original neck ribbon. Overall condition is very good to excellent, with honest wear and display appeal.
