Original German WWII 1939 Spange To The 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class Ribbon Unmarked
This is an original German Third Reich 1939 Spange (Clasp) to the 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class, complete with its original mounting ribbon. Instituted on 1 September 1939, the clasp was awarded to recipients of the 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class who once again distinguished themselves in combat during the Second World War, signifying a second award of the prestigious decoration.
The clasp features the national eagle with outstretched wings clutching a wreath enclosing the swastika above the raised "1939" date bar. The details throughout remain sharp and well defined, with crisp feathering on the eagle, a finely executed wreath, and bold numerals.
Manufactured from silver-finished metal, the clasp retains the majority of its original silver finish with only light age toning and honest wear from service and storage. The reverse is unmarked and fitted with the correct integral wire catch and attachment hooks, all of which remain secure and completely functional.
The clasp remains mounted to its original black and white Iron Cross ribbon, which displays strong color with expected light age toning and minor wear from decades of storage. The ribbon is configured for wear through the second buttonhole of the tunic, exactly as intended during the period.
An attractive and well-preserved example of one of the most recognizable combat distinctions of the Third Reich, making an excellent addition to any collection of original German WWII awards.
