Original German WWII War Merit Cross 1st Class Without Swords Marked L15 By Friedrich Orth
This is an original German WWII War Merit Cross 1st Class without Swords (Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse ohne Schwerter), manufactured by Friedrich Orth of Vienna.
The silver-colored cross features a finely pebbled surface with a central swastika surrounded by an oak-leaf wreath. The plain reverse is equipped with a broad vertical pin, hinge and retaining catch. The pin is clearly stamped “L15,” the LDO code assigned to Friedrich Orth.
This is an excellent-quality example with crisp details and much of its original silver finish remaining. The cross displays scattered age toning, minor surface wear and some darkening on the reverse, consistent with age. The pin and catch remain intact and functional. Overall, it is in excellent condition.
