Original German WWII Wehrmacht Issue Rabbit Fur Lined Winter Vest (Kaninchenfell)
A scarce and very desirable German WWII cold-weather under-vest, as issued for winter use and encountered with Heer/Luftwaffe/Waffen SS field gear. This example is constructed in a blue/grey striped cotton outer shell with factory-style quilting and reinforcing seams, and features the correct three front tie closures (upper chest, mid, and lower).
The interior is fully lined in genuine rabbit fur, made up of period-correct pieced pelts in mixed natural tones, providing excellent insulation. These vests were intended to be worn under a field blouse/tunic or greatcoat, and are also seen worn over the blouse in extreme conditions.
Unmarked as commonly found (no visible depot, size, or maker stamp). Condition is excellent overall, showing only minor age/handling with a few light stains/loose threads typical of storage. Based on the cut and display fit, it should best suit approximately a 40–42” chest, and may fit up to a 44” depending on layering and desired fit.
A very attractive, original winter issue piece, hard to find in this condition.
