Original German WWII Non-Matching k98 Bayonet by Coppel G.m.b.H. 1939 With Web Frog
This is an original German K98 bayonet, manufactured by Coppel G.m.b.H. of Solingen, Germany in 1939. The bayonet and scabbard are non-matching, but together form a solid wartime set.
Blade:
The blade retains a very good portion of its original dark wartime blued finish with signs of age toning. One side of the ricasso (the top of the blade directly below the grip and hilt) is clearly maker stamped Coppel G.m.b.H.; the other side bears the serial number "6349 d"; there is a date stamp on the side "39". The blade remains in very good overall condition, with typical signs of service use.
Handle:
The handle features a dark brown Bakelite grips in very good to excellent condition, showing tight fit with no cracks or repairs, secured by the correct blued screws. The pommel and crossguard retain their dark finish, with a functional locking button and release mechanism.
Scabbard:
The scabbard is serial numbered “5120”. It does maintain a little bit of factory bluing throughout. There are a few small dings, but remains free of structural damage, maintaining a solid form and proper fit.
Frog:
The bayonet is accompanied by an original tropical web frog manufactured from two different colored webbing. It shows some discoloration and light fraying in areas consistent with age and service use, but remains structurally sound. Notably, the cross strap bears a handwritten name, possibly that of the soldier to whom it was issued.
Condition:
Although it is non-matching, it is a solid set still worthy of collecting.
