Original German WWII SA Dagger M7/36 E. & F. Hörster Damaged

This is an original German WWII SA dagger manufactured by E. & F. Hörster and marked with the RZM code M7/36. The dagger remains a presentable example but exhibits notable damage and alteration, all of which are described below and visible in the photographs. It was acquired together with another M7/36 Hörster SA dagger directly from the son of the U.S. WWII veteran who brought both pieces home.

Grip:
The reddish-brown wooden grip remains solid and displays the inset SA roundel and a zinc eagle. Both emblems show age and wear, while the wood exhibits scattered handling marks consistent with its period use.

Fittings:
The upper and lower fittings display an aged finish with scattered surface wear and patina. The dagger remains assembled, although the fit shows some age and use.

Blade:
The blade retains the etched SA motto, “Alles für Deutschland,” although the finish exhibits scratches, gray spotting, and surface wear. The cutting edges show evidence of an attempted sharpening, with visible grinding or sharpening marks extending along the blade. The reverse ricasso is clearly marked with the RZM insignia and maker code “M7/36” for E. & F. Hörster.

Scabbard:
The reddish-brown painted scabbard retains a considerable amount of its finish, with scratches, scuffs, and general handling wear throughout. The scabbard’s suspension ring for the hanger and it's mounting loop have been broken off and are no longer present. The remaining fittings exhibit age, patina, and scattered surface wear.

Provenance:
This dagger was brought home by a U.S. WWII veteran along with another E. & F. Hörster M7/36 SA dagger, which we purchased both from the son. The companion dagger is also being offered separately.

Despite its damaged suspension hardware and previously sharpened blade, this remains an identifiable, veteran-acquired E. & F. Hörster SA dagger with a visible motto and clear RZM M7/36 marking. It would make an affordable representative example, restoration candidate, or addition to a collection focused on veteran bring-back edged weapons.
