Original Imperial Japanese Pre-WWII Manchurian Incident Medal With Case
An original Imperial Japanese Manchurian Incident War Medal complete with its original fitted presentation case. This medal was instituted in 1934 to commemorate military service during the Manchurian Incident and subsequent operations in Manchuria between 1931–1934, one of the major early campaigns of Imperial Japan prior to the Second World War.
The bronze medal features a detailed obverse design consisting of the Imperial chrysanthemum crest above a soaring eagle with outstretched wings. The suspension bar retains its original Japanese script, while the reverse depicts two Japanese Type 90 helmets, one Army and one Naval Landing Forces pattern, with their web chinstraps hanging downward. Below the helmets is Japanese script commemorating the Manchurian campaign, surrounded by decorative foliage.
The original ribbon remains attached and displays strong coloration with its distinctive red, white, and yellow striped pattern. The medal exhibits an attractive darkened bronze patina from age, with crisp detail remaining visible throughout.
Included is the original fitted storage case with gold Japanese characters to the lid. The interior retains its original yellow felt lining and custom recessed compartment for the medal. The exterior case shows expected age and storage wear consistent with age and storage.
A very desirable and complete Imperial Japanese wartime medal grouping that would display well in any WWII or Japanese militaria collection.
