Rare Original German WWII Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge By Metall und Kunststoff (M.u.K. 5)
This is an original and scarce German WWII Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge (Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe), manufactured by the desirable firm Metall und Kunststoff (M.u.K.), maker code "5." This maker is considerably less encountered than many other manufacturers, making this an attractive example for the advanced Luftwaffe badge collector.
The badge is die-struck in zinc and retains an attractive, untouched field-gray appearance with good overall detail throughout. The silver-finished oak leaf wreath exhibits pleasing age toning while retaining much of its original finish. The darkened central cloud field and lightning bolt remain well defined, providing excellent contrast against the wreath.
The separately attached eagle continues to retain a good portion of its original gilt finish, highlighting the finely detailed feathering and head. The swastika clutched in the eagle's talons still displays traces of its original blue-gray finish, with only very slight, minor corrosion present near the lower portion, consistent with age and storage. This is minimal and does not detract from the badge's overall appearance.
The reverse retains its original hardware, including the broad vertical pin, barrel hinge, and round wire catch, all of which remain tight and fully functional. The faint "M.u.K. 5" maker mark is still discernible on the reverse, although lightly struck or worn from age, as commonly encountered on these badges.
Overall, this is a genuine, well-preserved, and increasingly difficult-to-find Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge by the sought-after Metall und Kunststoff (M.u.K. 5) maker. Its scarce manufacture, honest untouched finish, and complete original hardware make it an excellent addition to any advanced German WWII badge
