This is an original German WWII M35 double decal Luftwaffe steel combat helmet manufactured by Quist. It contains a personal nametag sewn into the helmet liner that identifies the original owner as a soldier's last name Moog, assigned to the 1st Battery, Flak-Regiment 5.

EXTERIOR
This is an outstanding original German WWII M35 Double Decal Luftwaffe helmet manufactured by Quist (Q66). The original 1st pattern Luftwaffe eagle decal remains approximately 50% intact, with only white outline and most of the details of the eagle have worn off. The national tricolor shield is also still present but is lightly worn, with approximately 80% of the original decal remaining. Note: the eagle decal is censored. The shell retains a pleasing amount of its original Luftwaffe blue-gray factory finish with scattered scratches, finish loss, and age consistent with wartime use.

INTERIOR
The helmet is fitted with its original aluminum liner band, dated 1937, along with the original dark brown leather liner. The liner remains supple and complete, showing expected wear from age and service. Retains original liner drawstring. The original leather chinstrap is still attached, although it was shortened during its period of use, making the maker and date markings no longer visible.

One of the most desirable features of this helmet is the original cloth identification tag sewn beneath the leather liner. The tag is clearly marked:

In addition to the sewn identification tag, the leather liner itself is also ink stamped with the same Flak-Regiment 5 unit designation, providing a second period-applied identification linking the helmet to the regiment. Finding both a sewn name tag and a matching unit stamp in the same helmet is highly unusual.

HISTORY
The identification attributes this helmet to a soldier named Moog, who served with the 1st Battery, Flak-Regiment 5 of the German Luftwaffe.

Flak-Regiment 5 was among the Luftwaffe's earliest anti-aircraft regiments, with its origins dating to the expansion of Germany's air defense forces beginning in 1936. Stationed initially in Munich, the regiment was responsible for protecting southern Germany, including military installations, airfields, rail centers, and key industrial facilities while training newly formed Flak units. As the war progressed, Flak-Regiment 5 participated in operations throughout Western Europe before later serving in Italy, where it defended vital transportation networks, airfields, and industrial targets against increasingly heavy Allied bombing. The regiment remained in combat until Germany's surrender in May 1945.

CONDITION
The helmet's 1937-dated liner, early Quist Q66 shell, and 1st Pattern Luftwaffe eagle are entirely consistent with an early pre-war issue to Flak-Regiment 5 during the Luftwaffe's rapid expansion. The helmet accompanied its original owner through the early years of his military service till the very end of the war. Overall the helmet has seen some serious wartime use, but still is in very good condition.
