Original German WWII M35 Double Decal Luftwaffe Helmet Q66 This is an original German WWII M35 double decal Luftwaffe steel combat helmet manufactured by Quist, size 66. It also contains a U.S. handwritten name "Capt. Buchanon" on the leather liner.
EXTERIOR
The helmet retains its original smooth blue-gray Luftwaffe factory finish with an attractive, honest patina developed over decades. The shell shows normal service wear, scattered scratches, and light oxidation consistent with age and field use while remaining free of any significant damage.
The helmet still displays both of its original factory-applied decals. The 2nd Model Luftwaffe eagle decal remains very well preserved with excellent detail and vibrant colors. The national tri-color shield is likewise nicely retained, showing only minor age and wear.
Note: the eagle decal is censored. INTERIOR
The interior retains its original aluminum reinforced liner band, correct for early M35 production. The original leather liner is size marked 58 and remains soft and complete with only light age-related wear. Still retains it's original liner drawstring. Also present is a clear dome inspection stamp in the crown of the helmet.
There is a handwritten inscription "Capt. Buchanon" on the leather liner. This was almost certainly added by the American officer who brought the helmet home as a wartime souvenir. Named bring-back helmets such as this add a personal historical connection to the piece and are highly sought after by collectors.
The original leather chinstrap is complete, supple, and retains its steel buckle. It is maker marked and dated 1940 and in excellent condition.
CONDITION
Overall, this is an excellent, honest example of an early-war M35 Double Decal Luftwaffe helmet, a very attractive and increasingly scarce early Luftwaffe combat helmet that would make an outstanding addition to any advanced German helmet collection.
