Original Romanian WWII “Crusade Against Communism” Commemorative Medal With Ribbon
Instituted on April 1, 1942, by King Michael I under Royal Decree No. 1014, this medal recognized Romanian military and civilian participation in the war against the Soviet Union. It was also awarded to personnel of Romania’s Axis allies, including members of the German Wehrmacht.
The bronze medal features a female profile with the inscription “ROMANIA RECUNOSCATOARE” (“Grateful Romania”). The opposite side depicts a hand gripping a sword over a cross, accompanied by the date “1941” and the inscription “CRUCIADA ÎMPOTRIVA COMUNISMULUI.”
The medal shows age toning, light scratches, and scattered spots of oxidation, with the raised details and lettering remaining clear. Complete with its suspension ring and red ribbon featuring a central Romanian tricolor pattern and woven edge stripes. The ribbon retains its hook-and-eye fastening and shows light soiling, creasing, and minor fraying. No campaign clasp is present. Overall in excellent condition.
