Unissued Original German WWII Waffen SS Gebirgsjäger (Mountain Troop) Edelweiss Cap Insignia
A very attractive and desirable unissued original Waffen SS Gebirgsjäger Edelweiss cap insignia, intended for wear on the Bergmütze (Mountain Troop Cap) by SS mountain troops and personnel serving in Gebirgsjäger formations. The Edelweiss flower became the traditional symbol of German and Austrian alpine troops and was adopted by select Waffen SS mountain units during the Second World War.
This finely embroidered example features bright silver-gray petals with a vivid yellow center, all neatly machine embroidered onto a black wool backing characteristic of SS produced insignia. The reverse displays period-style white threaded backing and construction consistent with known Dachau-made examples. The embroidery remains exceptionally crisp and well defined, showing excellent detail throughout the flower petals and stem.
The insignia retains its full unissued appearance with no evidence of wear or removal from a uniform. The black wool backing remains clean and supple, while the embroidery retains excellent color contrast and definition. A scarce and highly collectible original Waffen-SS mountain troop insignia in mint unissued condition.
