Original German WWII SA Sports Badge In Bronze (SA-Sportabzeichen)
This is an original German WWII SA Sports Badge in Bronze (SA-Sportabzeichen), one of the most iconic political awards of the Third Reich. Originally instituted by SA Chief of Staff Ernst Röhm on November 28, 1933, the badge was awarded to individuals who successfully completed a demanding series of physical fitness, military proficiency, and endurance tests. In 1935, the award was officially recognized as a national decoration and became available to both military personnel and qualified civilians.
The badge features the classic upright SA sword superimposed over a mobile swastika, enclosed within a finely detailed oak leaf wreath tied with ribbon at the base. The obverse retains an attractive bronze finish with honest age-related wear and patina, while the details remain crisp and well defined.
The reverse is correctly marked "EIGENTUM D. OBERSTEN SA-FÜHRUNG" ("Property of the Supreme SA Leadership") across the vertical sword. The lower reverse bears the maker's mark "FECHLER", identifying the respected badge manufacturer. The original pin assembly remains intact.
At some point during its period of service, the catch was professionally repaired, with evidence of an old solder repair visible on the reverse. The repair appears solid and stable, and the badge remains fully displayable while retaining its original period hardware.
Overall, this is a nice, honest example of the Bronze SA Sports Badge, exhibiting attractive age, desirable maker markings, and a documented period repair that reflects its history of wear and use. A fine addition to any collection of German WWII awards, SA memorabilia, or political insignia.
