Original German WWII H-Youth Late-War Black Winter/Ski Cap With Edelweiss
This is an original German WWII late-war H-Youth winter or ski cap constructed from black wool. The cap features a fold-down wool panel designed to provide additional protection for the ears and neck during cold-weather activities. The panel is secured at the front by an adjustable cloth strap fitted with an aluminum slide buckle.
An enameled HJ membership badge is attached to the front of the cap. A zinc Edelweiss insignia with silver-colored petals and a gold-colored center has been hand-sewn to the left side. The Edelweiss was traditionally associated with alpine and mountain activities, making it an attractive addition to this winter cap.
The visor is of two-piece construction and shows considerable wear and fading. Its internal stiffener appears to be made of pressed cardboard, which has softened from extensive period use and is no longer rigid. The black wool also exhibits noticeable fading along the sides, producing a grayish appearance in several areas.
The interior is lined with dark blue cotton material and shows honest wear, soiling, and age. No manufacturer, RZM, or size markings are visible. The cap is approximately a size 56/57.
Despite its evident period use, the cap remains complete and displays very well. Overall, it is in very good to excellent condition considering its age and late-war construction.
