Original Third Reich NSRL/DRL Sports Medal Dated 37-
This original NSRL/DRL sports medal dates to 1937 and is believed to have been awarded in connection with a regional athletic competition. While the exact history of the medal is unclear, the obverse features a prominent eagle with down-swept wings clutching a mobile swastika on its chest—a design closely associated with the NSRL (Nationalsozialistischer Reichsbund für Leibesübungen), the National Socialist League of the Reich for Physical Exercise. The NSRL was the successor to the DRL (Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen), both being central organizations responsible for promoting physical fitness in Third Reich Germany.
The reverse of the medal is engraved with the inscription: "15.8.37 Leichtathletischer Drei-Kreise-Kampf Neustrelitz"
This refers to a track and field athletic event—specifically a "Three-District Competition"—held in Neustrelitz, Germany, on August 15, 1937.
The medal measures 3.8 cm in diameter and shows a pleasing, even patina with a few small spots of corrosion, consistent with age. The original ribbon is missing, but the medal itself remains in excellent overall condition and would make a fine addition to any collection of Third Reich or sports-related memorabilia.
