Original Third Reich SS NCO Sword Portepee
This is an original Third Reich period SS Non-Commissioned Officer sword portepee, correctly manufactured from woven aluminum and rayon thread in the regulation silver and black color scheme associated with SS NCO dress weapons. Portepees of this type were worn on SS swords as a rank distinction and were an integral component of formal and ceremonial uniform presentation.
The portepee features the correct flat woven strap with twin black longitudinal stripes, terminating in a properly constructed sliding knot and wrapped stem. The acorn is well formed, displaying alternating silver and black twisted cords with a tightly woven black cap. The underside of the acorn shows the correct recessed center with black wool fabric material, consistent with period manufacture. Overall construction, materials, and weave patterns are fully in line with known original examples.
Condition is very good overall, showing minor staining and age toning, consistent with honest period use and storage. There are no major frays, breaks, or repairs, and the portepee remains sound, flexible, and well suited for display. The metallic threads retain good definition and sheen.
A desirable and original SS NCO sword portepee, ideal for completing an SS sword, officer/NCO uniform display, or advanced Third Reich edged-weapon collection. As with all original WWII-era textiles, careful handling is recommended due to age.
