Original German WWII SA Sports Badge (Sportabzeichen) In Silver by Redo
This is an original German WWII SA Sports Badge in Silver (Sportabzeichen), one of the most iconic political awards of Pre-WWII. Originally instituted by SA Chief of Staff Ernst Röhm on November 28, 1933, the badge was awarded to individuals who successfully completed a demanding series of physical fitness, military proficiency, and endurance tests. In 1935, the award was officially recognized as a national decoration and became available to both military personnel and qualified civilians.
The badge features the classic SA sword superimposed over a mobile swas., enclosed within a detailed oakleaf wreath tied with ribbon at the base. The majority of the badge front and back exhibits some finish loss and oxidation.
The reverse retains its original vertical pin and catch assembly and is clearly maker marked “M. REDO”, along with “EIGENTUM D. OBERSTEN S.A. FÜHRUNG” (Property of the SA Leadership). The reverse also exhibits age and oxidation.
