Original Third Reich World War I Honor Cross (Hindenburg Cross) For Front Line Combatant by L. NBGThis was commonly referred to as the Hindenburg Cross. It was given to veterans of front line combat, non-combat veterans and auxiliary personnel, as well as the next-of-kin of personnel who were killed in action from August 1914 to December 1918. There are crosses with and without swords along with different variations of ribbon colors.
The cross is constructed of bronze finished metal and features the standard obverse design with a laurel wreath surrounding the central dates “1914 – 1918.” The details remain clear, with even wear, natural age toning and abrasions consistent with period manufacture and long term storage. The reverse has a few marks/scratches, and is clearly maker marked “L. NBG” (Christian Lauer, Nürnberg). The suspension ring and ribbon ring are original and undisturbed. The ribbon is discolored and there are some tiny holes where it was probably pinned at one time.
Overall, this medal and ribbon are in good condition.
