Original WWII U.S. Army EM Visor Cap by Burk & Co. Size 7 1/8 104th Infantry Division Veteran
Offered here is an original WWII U.S. Army Enlisted Man's Service Visor Cap attributed to **Sgt. William H. Clark of the 104th Infantry Division, the famed "Timberwolf Division." This division saw heavy combat in the European Theater during WWII, notably under the First Allied Airborne Army and Ninth United States Army in France, Belgium, and Germany.
**Included with the cap was a handwritten identification tag (not pictured) reading "Sgt. William H. Clark, U.S.A., 104th Div., W.W. II." This provides an interesting veteran attribution to the cap, although additional research would be needed to positively confirm Clark's service history and association with this particular cap. It's possible this cap was a private purchase.
Constructed of olive drab wool, the cap retains its original enlisted man's U.S. eagle cap insignia, brown leather front chinstrap, less commonly encountered adjustable rear leather tension strap, matching eagle side buttons, and brown leather visor. The interior features its original leather sweatband and olive-colored lining with a protective celluloid diamond. Inside the leather sweatband is period newspaper nicely folded to make the cap tighter. Beneath the diamond is the manufacturer's marking for Burk & Co., Nashville, Tennessee. The sweatband is size marked 7 1/8.
The cap remains in excellent overall condition, showing only light age and service wear. There is a small moth hole to the wool (Photo 6), along with some scattered wear. The leather components remain exceptionally well preserved. Please refer to the photos for additional details and actual condition.
