Original U.S. WWII St. Clair Low Pressure M1 Helmet Liner Shortened Home Front Example

This original WWII St. Clair low pressure M1 helmet liner has a shortened lower edge and a period painted yellow eagle on the front. The interior retains its original first pattern olive drab cotton suspension webbing, rather than the earlier white rayon suspension. The adjustable sweatband and nape strap are absent.

The shortened rim suggests the liner was repurposed after being rejected for military use. Similar examples were used as children’s helmets and may also have appeared at wartime patriotic fundraisers, including war bond drives. This liner’s specific use is unknown.

The exterior shows scattered scratches, scuffs, and age related wear. The yellow eagle remains visible with paint loss, while the interior webbing shows discoloration and use. An unusual WWII home front piece retaining its original military suspension. Overall in excellent condition.
