Unissued Original U.S. WWII AAF Cloth Map Asiatic Series – No. C-52 (Japan/South China Seas), No. C-53 (East China Sea)
This is an original U.S. WWII Army Air Forces (AAF) double sided cloth escape/navigation map covering portions of Japan, China, and the surrounding seas. Printed on lightweight rayon cloth, these maps were designed to withstand repeated folding and handling in the field. Unlike traditional paper maps, they could be compactly carried and were far less susceptible to tearing or damage from moisture.
One side is designated C-52 (Japan & South China Seas) shows coverage of Japan and the South China Sea region. The reverse is designated C-53 (East China Sea) covering the East China Sea and surrounding areas. The map features detailed period cartography showing coastlines, islands, cities, transportation routes, geographic features, latitude and longitude, and other navigational information important to Allied aircrews operating throughout the Pacific and Far East.
This example is in near mint condition, very clean and well preserved with vibrant printing throughout. It shows very little yellowing and no evidence of actual field use.
