Original Waffen SS EM/NCO Belt Buckle Steel RZM 155/43 SS By Assmann
This is an original German WWII Waffen SS enlisted/NCO steel belt buckle, manufactured by F. W. Assmann & Söhne of Lüdenscheid. The reverse is marked “RZM 155/43 SS,” indicating production in 1943, with the maker code assigned to Assmann. The marking is faint but still discernible beneath the prong bar, as is typical on examples of this variant.
The buckle is constructed of steel with a plated finish, representing the later wartime production period when aluminum was largely replaced by steel due to material shortages.
The obverse features the classic Waffen SS pattern eagle clutching a wreath surrounding the central roundel, with the SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” around the perimeter. The design retains good overall definition, with much of the original die detail still visible throughout the eagle, wreath, and lettering. Traces of the original field-gray factory finish remain visible, particularly within the recessed areas of the design.
The reverse retains much of its original painted finish and is fitted with the correct integral catch, prong bar, and belt prongs, all of which appear original and undisturbed.
Condition: Overall, the buckle appears unissued but shows storage wear, likely from long-term improper storage. There is scattered surface oxidation and rust spotting visible on portions of the obverse as well as light oxidation on the belt prongs. Despite this, the buckle remains structurally solid with no repairs, alterations, or postwar refinishing.
A nice authentic late-war Waffen SS enlisted belt buckle by the well-known maker Assmann, retaining good detail and honest period patina.
