Original German Pre-WWII Kriegsmarine 1936 Staffettenlauf Relay Race 1st Place Award PlaqueThis is an original Kriegsmarine Relay Race Award. "Staffettenlauf" is an older German term for a Staffellauf, referring to a running relay in which members of a team complete successive portions of the race. This plaque therefore represents a Kriegsmarine running/athletic competition award, rather than a swimming award.
The shield-shaped wooden plaque features a metal award plate secured to the front. At the top is a raised German naval flag, while the lower portion displays a detailed German national eagle and swas. The plaque has developed an attractive aged bronze patina while retaining excellent detail. The engraved lettering remains strong and easily readable.
Measures approximately 20cm x 11.4cm (8"H x 4.5"W).
Overall remains in good condition. It does show age related wear along the edges.
